Anni Rossi – “Crushing Limbs” – 12.4.11
“fighters, fingers, squished my ribs
squeezed the guts out and let it rip
my barrel’s emptiness is from their crushing limbs”
Reading those lyrics makes me flash back to a movie scene that I remember as a kid that really disturbed me. It was the steamroller scene from Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I still get a little freaked out whenever I see a steamroller in real life now because of that scene. I always imagine a person’s guts and everything being squeezed up their body like the end of a tube of toothpaste. The same goes for big vats of acid (poor shoe character), that movie really was pretty messed up now that I think about it. I guess it made up for all that disturbing stuff by having the sexiest cartoon female to ever grace the screen. As a young boy I sure did like her… What was I talking about?
Oh yeah, “Crushing Limbs” by Anni Rossi. This song has some nice disturbing lyrics in it but I bet that if you had someone who couldn’t understand English listen to it, they would think it was an upbeat cheerful song because that’s exactly how it sounds. I don’t know exactly what it is that I like about this song or Anni Rossi in general but I think it might just be that I’m a sucker for cute women who sing while playing the viola. I guess cute female singers are my new Jessica Rabbit… You know what, listen to “Crushing Limbs” and buy her album Heavy Meadow, I’m going to go rent Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
