Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi (Featuring Norah Jones) – “Black” – 12.18.11
“And when you follow through,
And wind up on your back,
Looking at up at those stars in the sky,
Those white clouds have turned it black.”
Rome, the Danger Mouse & Daniele Luppi collaboration that featured Norah Jones and Jack White from earlier this year just barely missed making it onto my top albums of the year list. Since I didn’t put it on there, I felt like I had to at least do a Song of the Day for one of the tracks on it but I wasn’t sure which one I wanted to do. Then last week I finally got around to starting and finishing up the fourth season of Breaking Bad (or “tension hour” as I have renamed it). The final scene of the last episode, besides being crazy and awesome in its own right, played a song that I thought went along with it perfectly. It was one of those times where I knew the song but for the life of me I couldn’t remember what it was. Then after quickly Soundhounding it I felt completely stupid for not realizing it was “Black.”
I remember listening to Rome and thinking that it had a very cinematic feel to it and that I would really like to see a spaghetti western style movie with great visuals accompany it. That’s never happened but I guess having a single song in one of the most stylish shows on TV that’s set in New Mexico will have to do.
