MACKLEMORE & RYAN LEWIS
“THRIFT SHOP FEAT. WANZ”
“I’ll wear your grand dad’s clothes,
I’ll look incredible,
I’m in this big ass coat from that thrift shop down the road.”
Seattle hip-hop icon Macklemore is the raddest dude alive, an opinion which has been confirmed in my mind since I’ve glimpsed the new video for his song “Thrift Shop.” The song and video exemplifies the essence of Capitol Hill, Seattle, a place where Value Villages, Red Lights, and other thrift shops are the Nordstroms or Macy’s to the rest of the U.S. Directed by Jon Jon Augustavo, Ryan Lewis, and Ben Haggerty (Macklemore), the video was filmed at some recognizable “Cap Hill” hot spots, including one of my favorite bars, which is named after a mystical, single horned creature.
Usually hip hop song’s with messages come off too preachy for me, but Macklemore does it in a way where you can enjoy the song with out listening to it purely for the message. Listen to “Same Love.”
