Sharon Van Etten – “One Day” – 1.23.12
“Call me aside and i will now be
and i will be fine with that
don’t leave me now, you might love me back
distance is fine, i know you can’t care
and nothing is big like that
you don’t see me now, i don’t see you back
one day i’ll be fine with that
you don’t leave me now
do you love me back?”
I was working at The Boise Record Exchange as either an intern under the Marketing & Promotion Director or in my customer service position on the floor the first time I heard Sharon Van Etten. Whatever position it was, I was in charge of setting up the stage for the in-store performance we were having that day. I had no idea who Sharon Van Etten was and when I heard that she was a singer songwriter I didn’t put my hopes up that high since most of them blend together in my mind. I kept this point of view until she sang the first note, at which point I was blown away. I didn’t understand how that captivating and powerful voice was coming from her mouth. She only played a four or five song set but I loved them all. “One Day” ended up sticking with me the most and has remained my favorite since that day.
“One Day” is from Sharon Van Etten‘s 2010 album Epic. I have put Epic back on high rotation recently so I can get in the Sharon Van Etten state of mind for her upcoming 2012 release Tramp. Tramp was recorded with The National‘s Aaron Dessner and includes colaborations with Julianna Barwich, Zach Condon and members of Wye Oak and The Walkmen.
Needless to say, the DHM staff is excited for Tramp to be released and you better believe that we will be in attendance at her March 25th concert in Seattle at the Neptune Theater (click the highlighted text for tickets).
