Shovels & Rope – “Birmingham” – 9.11.12

SHOVELS & ROPE
“BIRMINGHAM”

Holy shoot! I mean of my Gad…I haven’t been so excited about a single from a band that I know nothing about in a quite some time. I think since Major Lazer’s “Get Free,” another song from a group I knew nothing about but could not stop listening to. I heard this South Carolina duo come up on KEXP as their Song of the Day. The song is incredible throughout, but it really didn’t catch my attention until that bass drum kicks and the harmonies begin between the two singers. The duo is made up of Michael Trent (shovel?) and Carrie Ann Hearst (Rope?) and yes, they are star crossed lovers…If you are as intrigued as I was, read this

“Birmingham” is off their 2012 album O’ Be Joyful, out via Dualtone. Cop the album here
