[Video] Animal Collective – “Today’s Supernatural”
It may be because I’m extremely hazy this morning (I spent the majority of last night in a truck bed full of water eating sushi and drinking beers) but I am quite enjoying the latest visual treat (read: nightmare) from Animal Collective. Think of the video as a Mario Kart desert party gone horribly awry (‘I think we did way too much acid, maaaaan’) combined with the perfect amount of Insane Clown Posse make-up cameos. You can never have too many Insane Clown Posse make-up cameos. Also, there are flying arms beating some sort of mythical/drug-created creature. Seems outlandish? It isn’t, this is Animal Collective, they understand life better than you and you know it (and it’s super annoying for you, it may keep you up at night).
Anyways, despite my truck-bed-pool-beer-soaked-brain, I have always and will always love Animal Collective. I still remember the first time I heard “Hey Light” Sophomore year of High School. I was curled in a fetal position in the back of my friends sedan (I was way too stoned, obviously, trying to grip on to what little solace the Earth offered my body) and then he started blasting that song as loud as possible as we drove up a notoriously haunted canyon road in the outskirts of Idaho. Yeah, try not loving a band after that experience.
If you’re lucky, Animal Collective is coming through your township or civic center on their Fall tour. I live in Seattle, therefore I’m lucky, and the band actually kicks off the festivities here on the 18th of September at the Paramount. I’ll be there, I’ll be weird, you should come too.
