Blue Hawaii – “Lilac” – 4.30.12
It’s been so long since I’ve done a Song of the Day that I’m having a hard time remembering how to do it. I know I usually put in some information about the band and like a picture and stuff? … Sorry, I don’t know if it’s the fact that I’ve taken so much mental “time off” recently that I can’t seem to write something for Blue Hawaii’s “Lilac” or because every time I listen to the song I’m lulled into a peaceful music coma. Listening to Blue Hawaii is like falling asleep on a picturesque beach as tiny little beach fairies carry you and your hammock gently around the sky while singing sweet nothings into your ears and massaging your brain.
When I first started listening to Blue Hawaii I knew there was something familiar about their sound I enjoyed. It took me way longer than I like to admit before finally realizing one half of Blue Hawaii, Raphaelle Standell-Preston, was also the voice of Braids, another favorite band of mine recently. I was then made aware of how oblivious I can be when I saw I had the two bands right next to each other on a playlist for well over a month without making the connection.
The other half of Blue Hawaii is Alexander Cowan and “Lilac” can be found on their EP Blooming Summer, released through Arbutus Records.
